Mrs. P's Mood Potion - Gold Digger

Recently Mrs. P's Nail Potions created three gorgeous mood potions, designed to change color when cold and warm (it makes dishwashing so much more fun!):
Gold Digger "a military greenish, golden black to a bright yellow gold"
Caribbean Cove "a creamy aqua/robin's egg blue to a creamy pistachio kind of green"
Little Bruiser "a vampy deep reddish purple to a bright shimmery orangey red"

I have Gold Digger here to share with you. Stored in my polish collection the bottle shows the cold color, a dark green gold, but once applied it shows the warm color, a shimmery yellow gold. The color changes very easily and it's so much fun to wear! Every time I'm doing the dishes or playing with the kids outside, we all marvel at the gradient it creates, I just wish my nails were longer to sport a thermal gradient all the time! :)
There's a new "thank you coupon" through Etsy where everyone who makes a purchase will automatically receive an email with a coupon code for 15% off their next purchase!

Barielle Matte-Inee (matte finish)

Raise your hand if you're loving the matte nail trend? Nothing is more chic than a matte manicure with some high shine detailing, I only wish I had the skills to accomplish a filigree design, that would be gorgeous! Barielle recently sent me their Matte-Inee Matte Finish polish, which I didn't even realize they had in their line, and after playing around with their new Spring collection, Sweet Treats, I was anxious to mattify those beautiful shades with Matte-Inee. The matte finish is a tiny bit pink tinted, but it doesn't change the vibrancy of your polish color. It's consistency is similar to a base coat, just a pinch thicker than their Ultra Speed Dry top coat. Overall, I'm impressed and obsessed!

Barielle Sweet Treats (Spring 2013)

I am so excited to be sharing with you all the NEW Barielle Spring 2013 collection, Sweet Treats (available March 1st!). I hadn't even heard about this until it arrived in my mail, so you can imagine my giddy excitement when I saw the cover of the polish pack and the beautiful Spring appropriate shades inside. Barielle is a brand that I have come to adore, they are always on trend and they run sales and deals on their website so often that you rarely pay full price for their creations.

Green Apple Chew | a delicious chartreuse creme, unfortunately my brush was bent and very hard to work with so the finish is not perfect BUT the shade is fun and I think it will be perfect for some floral nail art this spring!

Banana Drop | a pastel yellowed-cream creme, it's more like the color of a peeled banana rather than the bright yellow skin. It's a little on the sheer/streaky side, but 3 decent coats will get you full coverage. This is such a cute shade, especially for a full manicure, it's crisp and clean without looking "yellowed".

Lilac Jelly Bean | a pastel lavender creme, it has a slight grey tone to it, but not in a dingy way - more like a pastel purpley taupe. I l.o.v.e. this shade, it looks so pretty on my skin tone, which has a yellow/olive undertone, just looks fresh and pretty for Spring.

Blue Cotton Candy | a muted teal with fine silver shimmer, when applying it I totally thought of hippy jeans... and then I thought it looked very similar to the Maybelline Color Show denim polishes. Turns out this one dries to a semi-matte finish as well, how exciting!

Orange Parfait | a melon coral creme, this one doesn't really read orange to me, it's feels more like a mature coral. I love that it is chipper without being a full on bright coral. It's a beautiful shade for a sunny day.

Benefit Fakeup Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer

A couple weeks ago I attended a little launch party for the Benefit Fakeup Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer. The new Benefit Fakeup concealer is a hybrid of concealer and hydrator, looking very similar to a lip balm. The concealer is launching on the BenefitCosmetics.com website 2/19/13 and in stores 3/4/13.

Benefit Fakeup Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer | $24.00 | 3.5g Net wt. 0.12 oz
Cover-up goes incognito! This hydrating crease-control concealer - with Vitamin E & apple seed extract - hides dark circles & diffuses fine lines for a silky smooth, ultra-natural look. Available in three shades, it’s proven to keep skin hydrated for 6 hours!

MY REVIEW
I've had this concealer in trial ever since I got it, so after two weeks I'm finally ready to share my thoughts on the product. I have a history of not liking the Benefit concealers, they have always applied slick and greasy on my skin, never soak in and crease up very quickly after application. Unfortunately this concealer doesn't prove to be any different. The concealer center seems very nice on its own, but when used with the hydrating balm surrounding it, it feels slick, greasy, creases, and never really soaks in. In fact, after just a few minutes from applying, I can still see it sitting on top of my makeup and even settling into my finer lines. I have tested this with and without powdering to set, both trials had similar results - adding a finishing powder helps the concealer from creasing for a few hours, but it eventually worked its way into my lines.

My eye area skin is not oily or dry, it's got a happy medium, so I think this concealer is just too much for my skin. It might be useful to those with very dry skin, but anything less of that I just cannot see it working as good as some other concealers out there. The coverage is very light, and I think that is due to the hydrating portion which seems to dilute the concealer itself. I don't have terribly bad darkness under my eyes, but you can definitely tell I need more sleep in my life. This product doesn't really conceal my undereye darkness, or even small blemishes and standard redness. Like I mentioned earlier, the concealer core is great, it covers, it creases slightly, but powdered it lasts for hours. The hydrating balm just seems excessive to me.

Makeup Tutorial for Work Safe Valentine's Day Look

Yes, Valentine's Day is fast approaching - this Thursday actually! So, I wanted to do a makeup tutorial for the working woman who needs her look to last through a work day and into a date night. I used mostly drugstore makeup for a more affordable and attainable look, but some items are higher end only because they are my personal go-to products. This is a simple and quick look that you can achieve in the morning, and using some long wear products, wear it safely into a romantic date night - of course some touch ups might be needed, but that's just the norm ;)

I'm featuring the Prestige Cosmetics Indulge Me eye palette (available at Ulta stores or on sale for $7.95 on prestigecosmetics.com), includes a Primed and Ready Eye Primer, a black Eyeliner Pencil and six shimmery shades from champagne neutral to smokey grey.

ELF Studio Lip Exfoliator

I recently featured the ELF Studio Lip Exfoliator in a contest entry showing a hot pink lip using all ELF products. Well, after getting a lot of questions on what I thought of it, I'm finally ready to share my review. I'll start with my lip scrub background - I always made my own with sugar and olive oil, so this was my first lip scrub product. I was excited to try it because as much as I loved making my own scrub, I'm just too lazy and don't make the scrub often enough to keep my lip exfoliation regular. This lip exfoliator has changed everything - in a fantastic way! I can exfoliate any time of day, in a matter of seconds, and that simple convenience is much appreciated. Now, my lips have been softer, less dry and flaky and chapping has pretty much been non-existent. Having a regular exfoliation in my lip care regimen really improves how my lips drink up hydrating lip balms and lip colors. It's amazing and I completely suggest everyone get one of these, especially since they only cost $3!

The bullet is a smoothing lip conditioner with tiny bits of sugar. The first application takes a while to wear down the lip conditioner enough to get to the real exfoliating part. The exfoliator has a gritty feel, so use a light hand when applying it. It tastes sweet, but I personally don't lick it off.

Now, I also wanted to note a comparison with the Lush lip scrub in Mint Julips, which I obtained a mini sample of around the same time I was trying out the ELF Lip Exfoliator. The Lush scrub is $9.95 and comes loose in a resealable pot. I actually prefer the ELF lip scrub over the Lush one, main reason being it's clean, quick and lasts a lot longer. Although my Lush lip scrub was in sample size, it dried out much quicker than expected and actually shrunk down a lot. I didn't like that the Lush scrub was loose because I always got the particles under my nails and some sugar bits would fall down and make a mess.
I wanted to share this comparison because I hear a lot of people say they love the Lush scrub, and while it's a nice product, I think the ELF Lip Exfoliator is much better and more affordable.

Flower Beauty Nail'd It, Lip Services, Kiss Sticks

I picked up just a few items from the NEW Drew Barrymore cosmetics line, Flower Beauty. At the time, my Walmart only had a mini display while they were preparing a section in the aisle for her new line. There weren't many products, so I just picked up a handful to try out. I did a video review this time because I haven't had any "quiet time" to sit and type out a coherent blog post (high five mommies!).

Here's what I bought:
Nail'd It Nail Lacquer - Eye Of The Tiger Lily | $4.98
Lip Service Lip Butter - Wispy Wisteria | $6.98
Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color - Flamingo Flower | $6.98
Kiss Stick High Shine Lip Color - Sweet Peony | $6.98
